CHAMBER
CONTINUES FIGHT FOR BUSINESS DURING FINAL DAYS OF
LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Although
the 2010 legislative session is drawing to a close,
late bills are still being introduced, and the Grand
Junction Chamber is holding a steady effort to
advocate for Grand Junction business. We have
taken opposing positions on HB
1408 concerning statutory directions concerning
congressional districts, HB
1152 regarding additional penalties regarding
noncompliance with ADA, and HB
1405, concerning a study of the options for
devolution of state highways that are commuter
highways to local governments. To learn what other bills
the Chamber has taken action on this year, view our bill
tracking sheet.

CHAMBER
SUSTAINS PUSH TO KEEP CAMEO OPEN
The
Chamber continues to support the quest to keep the
Cameo plant open for enough time to sufficiently
determine if augmenting coal with solar to generate
electricity is indeed commercially viable. If the
Cameo plant closes at the end of 2010 as originally
planned, this project will not acquire a full year's
worth of operational data, therefore losing much of
this opportune research. In collaboration with
other area organizations and associations, the
Chamber sent a letter to Governor Ritter expressing
this concern on May 3rd.

HOUSE
KILLS BILL TARGETING BUSINESS TAX CREDITS AND
EXEMPTIONS FOR REVIEW
The
Colorado House of Representatives killed HB
1429 on Tuesday, which would have required the
House and Senate Finance Committees to each year
jointly review specific business tax credits and
exemptions and decide whether they should be
continued, repealed, or modified. The
Governmental Affairs Committee had previously
voted to oppose the provisions of this
bill.
