CHAMBER SIGNS ON TO LETTER TO PROMOTE A POSITIVE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
The Governmental Affairs Committee elected to sign onto a letter written by the Denver Metro Chamber, Colorado Competitive Council, and Colorado Concern, which designated opposition to six pieces of legislation that would have a negative impact on Colorado business. The letter includes: SB10-185 (Residential Warrant of Habitability), HB10-1012 (Limit Surveillance Workers' Comp Claims), HB10-1017 (Voluntary Agreement Affecting Rent on Private Residential Property), HB10-1263 (Limit Income Tax Benefit for Comp Paid), HB10-1269 (Workplace Fairness Civil Remedies Act).  To view the full letter, click here.

SECRETARY OF STATE WORKING ON NOVEMBER BALLOT
The Colorado Secretary of State's office is busily working on determining which issues will be seen on this year's ballot.  Ballot initiatives were due last Friday by 5:00 p.m. A total of 98 proposals have been filed since the last statewide election.  Taxes, liquor sales, payday lending, renewable energy, health care, and rafting are among the most represented issues.  Citizens aiming to place an issue on the November ballot must follow numerous steps, starting with filing a proposal with the Legislative Council, and must have collected at least 76,047 valid signatures.  For more information on potential ballot issues, view the Secretary of State's Log of Initiatives Filed

A RECORD 24 COLORADO BALLOT INITIATIVES FILED ON RAFTING CONTROVERSY
A battle pitting river rafters against private landowners will likely be extended to the Colorado ballot in November.  Both sides filed a record total of 24 proposed ballot initiatives on the subject before the deadline last Friday.  To view a full story as published in the Denver Post, click here.

PROPOSITION 101, AMENDMENTS 60 AND 61
The Secretary of State's office has determined at least three issues for the November Ballot.  Proposition 101 regarding various tax cuts, Amendment 60 on property tax cuts, and Amendment 60 on debt prohibition will all be issues Colorado citizens will be voting on later this year.  To learn more about these ballot measures, view Colorado Strategies President Henry Sobanet's presentation outlining the stipulations and potential effects of these measures.

PROPOSED INITIATIVE WOULD ALLOW UTILITY COMPANIES TO OPT OUT OF RENEWABLES
A proposed ballot measure would allow individual Colorado utility companies to vote on whether or not they will be incorporating wind, solar, and other renewable resources into their power generation.  To view full article as published in the Denver Post, click here.
