Is A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Right for Your Business?
A Ribbon Cutting may be a great promotional opportunity for your business if you fall into any of the following categories:
- Move to a New Location
- New Business
- Change of Ownership
- Major Anniversary (10th, 20th, etc)
Tips for Success:
- Secure a date early with Chamber staff (8-12 weeks in advance is not too soon)
- Invite your customers, friends and family. Attendance at your event is dependent on how many people you invite, and how much promotion you decide to do.
- How "big" you want your ceremony to be is up to you. We've seen businesses pull out all the stops and do catered affairs with hundreds on their invite lists. We've also seen businesses keep it simple. It's all up to you!
- Issue a press release of your own to the local media (the Chamber can give you contact information)
- Determine in advance who you want to “cut the ribbon” and which if any employees you would like to participate in the event
How the Chamber Helps:
- Arranges for the Chamber Rangers and other Chamber officials to be in attendance
- Can provide a list of dignitaries and media to invite to your event
- Provides the ribbon and the scissors to be used in the event
- Provides a copy of the photo taken at the event to the business
- Publishes the ribbon cutting photo in the Chamber newsletter and on the Chamber page which appears weekly in the Daily Sentinel
Sample Itinerary for An 11: 30 or a 4:00 Ribbon Cutting (what to expect):
- 11:15 3:45 Staff and Rangers gather at the business and introduce themselves
- 11:30 4:00 Rangers and business representatives gather in a “photogenic” location (inside the store, outside in front of a sign, whatever you choose). Ribbon is held by two volunteers and scissors is given to the owner/manager for cutting
- 11:35 4:05 Staff will take three pictures…one of the ribbon being cut…a reenactment of the ribbon being cut and one of a plaque being presented to the owner/manager
- 11:40 4:10 Business spokesperson gives a short overview (3-5 minutes) of the business and presents information that Rangers and others can use to “spread the word” about who you are and what you do.
- 11:45 4:15 Adjourn for refreshments if they are being served
- 12:00 4:30 Chamber portion of the event concludes.
Cost: There is no cost if the business is already a Chamber member or commits to joining the organization within six months of the event. For all others the charge is $100.
