Grand Junction Area Chamber BUY Local Program
Thank you for being part of the Grand Valley’s vibrant business community. As part of the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce efforts to stimulate the local economy we are launching a “shop local” campaign themed "Jump On the Blue Band Wagon". The tagline
is Buy Local, Save Jobs, Make a Difference.
The number one priority of this campaign is to change local consumer attitudes about how shopping locally can stimulate economic activity, assist in entrepreneurship development, create jobs, generate tax dollars for streets, police and fire protection and generate dollars
for nonprofits from Little League to United Way. We will be issuing blue wrist bands to
remind shoppers to think before they buy on how they can leverage their dollars and help
the community.

WHAT CONSUMERS CAN DO
Buying local puts your hard-earned dollars to work right here in your community.
Keep Recycling Your Dollar
By choosing to re-circulate your dollars in the Grand Valley, you play an important role in keeping our regional economy strong, creating jobs and providing vital tax revenue that supports things like road repair, police and fire protection.
Keep Our Community Strong
When local businesses flourish, they can continue their support of important community projects and charitable organizations.
Keep Our Economy Strong
For every one dollar spent locally you can have a positive impact of $3.00. If we all do that it will have a measureable effect on helping our local economy recover from the recent recession.
Keep Your Neighbors Working
The Grand Valley is a robust region, with thousands of companies open for business and eager to assist you—large and small, franchises and locally-owned, you’re bound to find what you’re looking for.
Buy Local is a mindset. You do have a choice and you can make a difference.

SHOP LOCAL WEEK: OCTOBER 10 - 16, 2011
For over a year the Chamber’s Blue Band program has encouraged residents to shop locally. There are many reasons for doing so. Dollars spent locally turn over three to five times in the system helping to generate economic activity which is the single most important reason for the practice. In addition there are over 150 local businesses that are offering the additional incentive of discounts and special offers to Blue Band wearers.
This week you have one more incentive for helping to make a difference by shopping locally. The Blue Band Committee is launching Shop Local Week. Residents are asked to take copies of their receipts for local purchases with their name and phone number legibly written on the back, to the Grand Junction Chamber Offices at 4th and Grand or Mesa Mall Guest Services to be entered in a drawing for a chance to win prizes from local businesses.
The receipts must all be dated between October 10th and October 16th and must be turned in by close of business on October 17th. Any local business receipt will be accepted regardless of whether that business is part of the Blue Band program or not. The drawing for prizes will take place at the Chamber’s Business Showcase on October 18th at Colorado Mesa University. Winners need not be present to win and only one prize per person will be awarded. However, the more receipts with your name in the drawing the greater your chance of being one of the lucky winners.
It’s easy, it’s simple, it helps the economy so get busy shopping and turn in those receipts!
